On the Das Racist thing

First off, I’m not that invested in Das Racist as a group but I’ve really enjoyed their solo mixtapes over the past year or so. One of the interesting themes has been their playful investigation of gender (Heems’ “Womyn”, Kool A.D.’s “Arrested Development”). So the recent story of them on tour and basically being sexual predators is just kind of pathetic. You know, you just expect them to be more sophisticated than that. In short, they can be the regular d-bags that you might expect, in spite of what thoughts they decide to publicly display in their music with respect to this stuff.

Other musical groups have fallen into this sort of trap: PC and holding everyone to a higher standard on some issues, failing like most on other issues. It’s easy to come off as hypocrite.
